Everything you need to know about County Compensation Survey — the data, the platform, and how to get started.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the data collected?
Data is collected through working directly with each County Administration to obtain the information necessary to complete the survey. We collect employee-level data as well as benefits information. We do not collect data based on FOIA/FOAA requests — all participation is voluntary and cooperative.
How does County Compensation Survey improve pay transparency?
Our platform consolidates pay data across counties, offering detailed reports that enhance transparency and trust. The County Compensation Survey plays a crucial role in enhancing pay transparency by providing detailed, comprehensive data about salary ranges, compensation trends, and benefits across various counties. This allows organizations and public agencies to openly compare their pay structures with others in the region, fostering an environment of openness and fairness.
Who can benefit from using this platform?
County Administrators, HR Directors, Budget Officers, and elected officials can use our data to make informed compensation decisions tailored for the public sector. Any county government organization responsible for compensation decisions or public accountability around pay will benefit.
Is the data compliant with government regulations?
Yes. All compensation data is handled following strict public sector compliance standards to ensure accuracy and confidentiality. Data submitted by participating counties is protected, and only aggregate and peer comparison data is accessible on the platform — individual county identifiers are not exposed to other participants.
How frequently is the compensation data updated?
Data is refreshed quarterly to reflect the latest county government pay trends and benchmarks. This means your team always has current data — not last fiscal year's benchmarks — when making compensation decisions.
What counties and states does the survey cover?
We currently have strong participation from counties in the Northeast, with partners including the Maine County Commissioners Association. Coverage is expanding quarterly as we onboard new county participants. Contact us to find out which states and counties are currently included.
Do you provide consulting alongside the platform?
Yes. The same team that built and runs the survey is available for consulting engagements. We can help you interpret data, build salary structures, prepare pay transparency documentation, analyze pay equity, and more. See our Services page for details.
How do we participate in the survey as a data contributor?
Contact us through the form below or email david.turetsky@hrdatalabs.com. We will walk you through the data submission process. Participation is voluntary, and contributing counties get enhanced access to peer comparison data.
What does the platform cost?
Pricing is based on county size, scope of access, and whether consulting services are included. Contact us for a quote tailored to your county. We offer tiered pricing to ensure access for counties of all sizes.
